COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Anchorage Animal Care and Control is strained after seizing 103 bunnies, 36 hens and roosters, and other animals on Jan. 22 from a neglect case near Little Rabbit Creek.   • According to the Alaska Travel Industry Association, 2.7 million visitors came last summer and tourism numbers were flat compared to previous data.   • Lawmakers introduced a bill on Wednesday to boost public school funding by $630 per student amid deep cuts, though the proposal still faces hurdles as state leaders weigh a tight budget and rising oil prices.  KTOO
  • UAA named Cheryl Siemers as permanent chancellor effective March 8 after serving ten months as interim leader.
