CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An Eagle River family in Mexico took shelter overnight at Puerto Vallarta airport (due to cartel violence erupting nearby) and are now safe at a nearby resort as they prepare to fly back Thursday. Alaska's News Source

- ➤ The annual Fur Rondy Pin Swap 2026 is set to begin soon in Anchorage as local collectors gather to trade unique pins (a tradition that began in 1939). Alaska's News Source
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Anchorage School District approved its 2026-27 budget on Tuesday night by preserving funding for high school and middle school sports while using funds saved from closed schools (gymnastics remains unfunded). The board passed the amendment 5-2 with proposals from members Jacobs and Lessens. Alaska's News Source
- ➤ Anchorage School Board approved a revised $867 million district budget Tuesday that cuts over 500 staff and closes three elementary schools to address a $90 million deficit. The board added that a proposed tax levy may fund up to 80 teacher positions on the April ballot. Alaska Public Media
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The tribal government of Kipnuk is examining options to relocate the village after severe damage from the Oct storm. Working from their temporary Anchorage office, officials collected votes from residents & shortlisted two sites at least 40 feet above sea level for safer living. Alaska Beacon

- ➤ Anchorage artist Amanda Rose Warren was chosen by the Division of Elections to design the state’s 'I Voted' sticker and election pamphlet ahead of Nov. 3 — her colorful wildlife themes are expected to bring voters together. Your Alaska Link
- ➤ Disaster recovery crews have moved Typhoon Halong evacuees into Anchorage apartments since late December, with one family in a Spenard unit, while over 300 remain in hotels as officials aim to finish moves by March 1.
