- ➤ On Feb. 16, the Alaska Air National Guard rescued an injured cross-country skier near Girdwood using a night-vision helicopter to transport the skier to Providence Alaska Medical Center. Your Alaska Link

- ➤ Fred Meyer’s Northern Lights store in Anchorage won the 2025 Golden Carrot award for its Alaska Grown displays and local support during the $5 Challenge. The award ceremony is set for Friday, Feb. 20 at 12 p.m. at the store. Your Alaska Link
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Over 200 students, families and educators packed a meeting to oppose proposals to close Fire Lake and Lake Otis elementary and cut programs while Campbell STEM is under review — the board kept Fire Lake and Lake Otis open for fall and will decide Tuesday, Feb. 24. Your Alaska Link
- ➤ Campbell STEM Elementary, Alaska’s first school focused on STEM education, is on a possible closure list after maintenance issues led the Anchorage School District to include it with little advance notice; parents mobilized quickly and the board will decide on Feb. 24 (special meeting planned). - ➤ Gus Schumacher—a 25-year-old local cross-country skier—earned a silver medal in the team sprint at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games Wednesday. He raced with teammate Ben Ogden and celebrated with family and coach Erik Flora. Alaska Public Media
