  • Anchorage native Daniel Coyle has released his third book, Flourish, which examines how presence and group flow help communities thrive—drawing on research from events like the Homer Nutcracker Ballet and transformative classroom projects.  Anchorage Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At 11:47 a.m. Sunday, a 5.1 earthquake struck near Kodiak 128 miles south of the island at a depth of 15.5 miles with no tsunami warnings, and officials are monitoring the situation.  Alaska's News Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Anchorage's community and economic development director, Bob Doehl, now leads a reorganization that combines key departments to streamline permit approvals as part of Mayor LaFrance's drive to build 10,000 homes. Doehl plans to launch an online permit system and fix code inconsistencies to speed housing.  Anchorage Daily News

  • Anchorage broadcaster Andrew Kastning calls European cross-country ski races from home on late-night shifts and draws energy from a donated jumpsuit.   • On Saturday, Feb. 7, South Anchorage boys hockey team beat Dimond 3-2 at Ben Boeke Arena in the Cook Inlet Conference championship; the Wolverines rallied from a 2-0 deficit to preserve their unbeaten season.  Anchorage Daily News
  • Team USA cross-country skiers faced crashes in the Olympic skiathlon held in Tesero, Italy over the weekend+ Jessie Diggins rallied to finish eighth while Anchorage’s Gus Schumacher recovered to claim 24th, and the athletes will race in a classic sprint on Tuesday.  Anchorage Daily News
