  • Anchorage School District’s sixth annual Indigenous Fashion Show will take place tomorrow at Bettye Davis East High, where over 60 Indigenous students will model traditional regalia and a craft fair will host 70 local vendors (the event is organized by the Gui Kima program that connects students with cultural heritage).  Anchorage Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission confirmed today that Cook Inlet Energy burned state-owned gas at the Badami field for nearly four months in 2024 and 2025 to keep oil production steady, fining the company $313,616 (an amount tied to about 900 homes’ heating needs).  Anchorage Daily News
  • In 2025, Alaska’s population grew slightly to 738,737 on July 1 because births exceeded deaths despite 13 consecutive years of more people leaving than arriving (according to the Labor Department). Demographers predict the state’s population will decline steadily by 2050.  Anchorage Daily News
  • Anchorage residents will vote on a comprehensive trail improvement plan in April to enhance outdoor recreation — a 27-year initiative that includes upgrades to trails, athletic fields and playgrounds across Anchorage and surrounding communities.  Alaska's News Source
