ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Eight people were treated and released from North Slope clinics after an oil rig tipped over Friday (around 4:45 p.m.) while traveling on an ice road; a small fire was controlled and officials now work on an environmental assessment and recovery plan led by Doyon Drilling. Alaska's News Source

- ➤ Aleutian Airways plans to boost its seasonal service by adding a second daily Anchorage-Homer flight next month and launching routes to St. Paul Island, Unalakleet and St. Mary’s using new ATR aircraft (backed by Essential Air Service funding). The carrier resumed Dutch Harbor flights after weather delays. Anchorage Daily News

- ➤ Soldotna’s Trent Powell, a former Anchorage Wolverine, helped the Long Island University Sharks defeat UAA 6-2 on Friday at Avis Alaska Sports Complex. Powell — a local hockey talent — logged his eighth assist of the season as the team gears up for two more games in Alaska. Anchorage Daily News
- ➤ Local sports scores show high school skiers at Kincaid Park on Jan. 23 and other contests in hockey, basketball and college games produced tight finishes across Anchorage last week. The scoreboard lists standout times and close score margins for several local teams + regional contests. Anchorage Daily News
- ➤ Kincaid Park now offers much improved ski conditions compared to last winter, giving local skiers a better experience on the slopes. Park officials say the change is expected to boost winter activities for families & athletes. Alaska's News Source
- ➤ The 2026 Knik 200 started on Friday, Jan. 24 as racers took off on the course in Anchorage. Fans lined the route to cheer on competitors in a race that promises to test speed and skill. Alaska's News Source
- ➤ After a three-week weather delay, 17 dog teams kicked off the Knik 200 at 11 a.m. Saturday at Knik Lake—race officials said the event follows the historic Iditarod trail and will conclude Sunday. Alaska's News Source
- ➤ Anchorage’s Gus Schumacher earned his second podium finish in 48 hours by placing second in a World Cup classic sprint race in Goms, Switzerland on Saturday, Jan. 24 + his strong finish moved him to seventh in the overall standings. Anchorage Daily News
