ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After a dangerous Friday, Anchorage roads were less icy Saturday, but APD reported 14 crashes and 8 with injuries (20 distress calls) as a wintery mix urged drivers to remain cautious.  Alaska's News Source

CIVIC NEWS

  • Anchorage demonstrators gathered on Friday, Jan. 17 amid rising tensions with Greenland as they voiced concerns and urged local officials for increased dialogue. Details from organizers remain limited.  Alaska's News Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The ASD and its teachers' union reached a tentative agreement on Jan. 17 — after lengthy negotiations in Anchorage — and now await contract ratification.  Alaska's News Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Anchorage Wolverines won a 2-1 shootout at Sullivan Arena Friday night, extending their winning streak to four games and earning two points. Goalie Kai Weigel made 31 saves on 32 shots (battling cramping) as the game featured intense plays and early period brawls.  Anchorage Daily News
  • High school and college teams competed in hockey, basketball, and cross-country skiing on Jan. 17, 2026, with close games and competitive scores. Anchorage’s NAHL game featured the Wolverines and Ice Dogs in a tightly contested match (local results captured a vibrant sports spirit).  Anchorage Daily News
