  • A Kansas couple is set to donate 2,000 lbs beef via Cow Team 6 to Typhoon Halong survivors, with the shipment arriving in Anchorage by the weekend of Jan. 17. They work with Medicine Lodge Meats & local partners to support food supplies for affected villages.  Alaska's News Source

  • Anchorage plow companies have seen a sharp rise in business this winter, with Denali Clearview LLC receiving up to 20 calls a day for clearing driveways, walkways, and roofs (a significant jump from only 3 to 4 calls last season).   • Jirdes Winther Baxter, the last survivor of the 1925 Nome diphtheria epidemic, died Jan. 5 at age 101; her family honors her memory and the brave mushers who delivered the life-saving serum (a journey that inspired the Iditarod) during a critical moment in local history.  Alaska's News Source

  • U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan said progress on the Alaska LNG Project has advanced with key letters of intent and international partnerships; a final investment decision is expected in 2026 with facility work beginning on the Kenai Peninsula.   • Anchorage residents had mixed feedback on city and state plowing efforts after a storm brought up to 2 feet of snow.   • Alaska's congressional delegation introduced the Bycatch Reduction and Research Act on Wednesday to cut unwanted catch in southwest waters. The proposed law, backed by Sen. Dan Sullivan, Sen. HEALTH NEWS

  • A study found that Mini-PASS units distributed by ANTHC during the pandemic increased water use and reduced respiratory symptoms among children in rural Alaska by offering a low-cost handwashing solution for unpiped homes (a pivotal measure against illness), a report published Jan. 14 shows.  Alaska Public Media
  • State health leaders meet in Anchorage this week to shape Alaska’s $272 million Rural Healthcare Transformation program, part of federal funds announced in December under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (aimed at improving rural access).
