CULTURE NEWS

  • Engine 557 — Alaska Railroad's last steam locomotive — was fired up in November in Wasilla by the 557 Restoration Company after 13 years of work. Local volunteers celebrated the test run by sounding its steam whistle, marking a historic new beginning.  Alaska Public Media
  • James and Jen Butterworth have maintained a holiday display in glass cases on 2071 Campbell Place, which stays up year-round to bring festive joy to locals. The exhibition runs from January through December.  Alaska's News Source

  • For the past week, more than a dozen bald eagles have gathered near the busy Debarr and Muldoon Roads intersection in East Anchorage, drawing attention from arriving drivers at a local coffee shop (as one staffer described).
